Calipari gets extension

Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari has received a two-year contract extension from the school.

The extension will keep Calipari with the Wildcats for the next eight years barring some unforseen circumstances.

Calipari has made it clear that he has no interest in returning to the NBA after falling flat on his face in his time with the New Jersey Nets.

Calipari’s original contract paid him nearly $4 million per season, and the new deal is expected to increase that amount. (Read More…)

Kentucky gets past North Carolina, 76-69

The Kentucky Wildcats advanced to the Final Four with a 76-69 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, and for the most part, maintained it through the entire game.

The Tar Heels managed to tie it up with about three minutes to play, but Kentucky quickly took the lead again for the final time.

Instead of being afraid to run against the Tar Heels, Kentucky often seemed like the better up-tempo team. (Read More…)

The Kentucky Wildcats showed their toughness in a 71-63 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Wildcats got a terrific performance from Brandon Knight, who scored 30 points after a miserable opening game performance.

Knight credited assistant coach and former NBA player Rod Strickland for giving him confidence heading into the game.

Kentucky skates past Princeton, 59-57

The Kentucky Wildcats came up with a big basket in the final moments for a 59-57 win over the Princeton Tigers.

The pesky Tigers gave the Wildcats all they could handle and then some, refusing to go away in the second half.

In fact, the Tigers actually opened up a small gap at one point and seemed to have control of the game.

In the end, Kentucky simply had too much size and too much speed for Princeton to contend with. (Read More…)

Knight’s right on time as ‘Cats dodge upset bid

By Bud L. Ellis

Brandon Knight has come up big time and time again for the Kentucky Wildcats this season. Mired in one of the worst games of his stellar season, Knight picked the right time to hit his only shot from the field on Thursday.

Knight’s basket with two seconds left snapped a tie and lifted the Wildcats past upset-minded Princeton 59-57 in the NCAA tournament. (Read More…)

Kentucky rolls over Florida, 70-54

The Kentucky Wildcats rolled their way to an SEC title with a 70-54 victory over the Florida Gators.

The Wildcats really put the clamps on Florida in the second half, holding them to a poor shooting performance.

Brandon Knight lead the way with 17 points and Darius Miller continued his penchant for hitting big shots in critical moments.

Kentucky, which struggled in road games this year, showed that they could play well on a neutral court. (Read More…)

Kentucky sneaks past Tennessee, 64-58

The Kentucky Wildcats finally came up big on the road with a 64-58 win over the Tennessee Volunteers.

Kentucky rallied back from a halftime deficit to make enough shots in the final minutes to gain the victory.

Point guard Brandon Knight didn’t score until the final seconds of the first half but finished with 19 points.

It’s been no secret that the Wildcats haven’t played well at all on the road this season, so maybe they are turning the corner. (Read More…)

Wildcats’ SEC seeding still up in air

By Bud L. Ellis

With one game remaining in the Southeastern Conference regular season, the Kentucky Wildcats still do not know when or against whom their postseason will begin.

The Wildcats are part of a logjam trying to secure second place in the SEC East and, more importantly, the first-round bye that comes with it for the conference tournament. (Read More…)

Kentucky rallies past Mississippi State, 85-79

The Kentucky Wildcats overcame a lack of emotion to start the game to gain an 85-79 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Head coach John Calipari spent most of the night ranting and raving on the sidelines imploring his team to pick up the intensity.

This has been a problem throughout Calipari’s short tenure at Kentucky, and it doesn’t seem to be going away.

However, the Wildcats had the talent to be able to overcome their lack of fire and recover in the second half. (Read More…)
